Today was a great day.  Downhill most of the way, cool air, wind at our backs, smooth road, just the exhilaration of riding.   We have two new riders accompanying us.  Thirteen year old Lane Keating pedaled his heart out and racked up 27 miles.  Sheila Pearson, a newly arrived companion rider,  rode for 8 miles, her first time out.  Animal as usual was a pain in the you know where.

"Hey John!"

Oh, oh, here it comes.  "Yes Animal."

"I am trying to work out an inverse square theorem here.  It seems to me that the number of road kills is inversely proportional to the square of the number of restaurants in the local area.  So the more animals that remain on the road surface, the less number of Chinese restaurants there are in the vicinity.  Conversely, the greater the number of restaurants, the fewer the number of road kills remaining on the road.  What do you think?  We could even name it as Animal's Dead Animal Theorem of Consequential Restaurant Supply."

"Sure Animal," Joe quips.  "We could test it out.  Let me run over you and we will determine how long your miserable carcass would remain on the road."

All Joe gets for his suggestion is a long, hard stare from Animal.

The road is a wide one mostly downhill.  Joe gets an Attaboy for his route planning.

Lane continues to impress everyone with his strength and endurance.

His dad, is struggling to stay out front.

Despite all setbacks and adversity, Joe manages to hang tight with the pack and dedicate a hill to Tami in her honor (this was a special request from OWW to insure continued friendly employee relations).

Taking time out from her SDIT duties (Support Driver In Training), Sheila manages to force Joe to the rear of the pack.  Poor guy will never be the leader of the pack but will have to eat everyone's dust.

As the sun sets slowly in the West, we finish our ride in Newberry, South Carolina.  The nice wide road turns into a two lane, narrow one.  We wonder what the morrow will bring?
