Happy Fourth of July!

Departing the Edmund Petus Bridge, we rolled eastward towards the oasis of Montgomery, Alabama

Rene joined us for the ride to the airport and learned that the hills on the Selma highway are just as steep as those in Birmingham.

John and Animal completed their ride and rendezvoused with Joe and Rene at the MGM airport.  The Montgomery Bicycle Club turned out in force to ride the last eight miles into the Healthsouth facility.  On the way, thanks to Alabama Artificial Limb Co, Ohio Willow Wood, and Healthsouth we were confronted with a huge roadside billboard welcoming Amputees Across America to Montgomery.

"Hey Ani-MULE," Joe yelled.  "Why do they call you Ani-MULE?  You aint no Mule.  Maybe just part of you is a mule.  Whadoyasay?"

Animal is strangely quiet and seems to be pondering this paradox.  Finally, with uncharacteristic humility, he shrugs and hides his face in the crook of John's arm.  Something is brewing and Animal is pondering the imponderable.  Time will only tell what he is up to.

Our welcome at Healthsouth is unusually warm.  Home to John (and Animal) as well as Janette, many family members greeted us.  Healthsouth and the Alabama Association for the Physically Challenged, our support group host, went all out in making our arrival an event to remember.  The Classic Car Club was also in attendance.
