We have departed Eloy, staging through Florence, Arizona on our way to Tucson. An early morning getup got us rolling at first light.

Starting our ride up a five mile long hill, we were finally over the summit and relaxed on the downhill side.

Life doesn't get any better than rolling downhill and enjoying beautiful vistas.
Things John learned today:
"Every hill has a downside."

Things Joe learned today:
How to sneak up and hang onto John's flag for a tow.

Things Animal learned today:
How to distract John while Joe is getting a tow.
Though Joe, for a change, did not get us lost today, he failed to consider a little known fact that scenic routes are usually hilly... as in scenic overlook and Skyline drive. So if any vestige of energy remained in our bodies, it was rapidly lost pumping our bikes up hilly (but quite scenic) overlooks surrounding Tucson. Fortunately, John did not have enough energy to strangle Joe.
Things Jerry learned today:
That he looks "Soooo good" on TV news.

Arriving at Healthsouth in Tucson we were welcomed by Dave Tupper and Suzi Bustamante.
Following a sumptuous buffet of cheeses, fruit, vegetables, and ice cream, we were treated to several guest speakers.

Derek Brown, the Adaptive Athletic Coach at the Disability Resource Center at the University of Arizona spoke about the challenged athlete program and we heard from Darlene, one of his star marathon wheelchair racers. Their commitment to excellence and their advocacy for all challenged athletes had a very special meaning for everyone who attended the reception.

Jean, a 60 year AK amputee, related many of her life's experiences with grace and humility. Her personal narrative and the testimonial of her husband were heartfelt and moving for all that heard her speak.
Our thanks to all those in Healthsouth Rehab Institute of Tucson, Hanger, and Western Medical who supported us and did so much to make us feel welcome.
As we will be having a down day tomorrow in preparation for our journey along US Route 9 into El Paso, we will not have a journal entry tomorrow. Please check back with us June 19 to read about our adventures as we journey along the Mexican border.
