We departed at 6:00 AM with Ralph, Pearla, and Don. Animal had a hard time keeping up with Pearla who amazed us with her stamina, endurance, and riding skill. Ralph, riding a bike for the first time since 1984 also showed that you never forget how to ride a bike.

Passing through quaint Mexican communities along our route, Animal pointed out to John his close call with the Mexicale Federales. The jailhouse is pictured above. Our ride continued for a little more than 40 tough miles into a 10-15 mile an hour headwind. It was a tough day for tires. Every bike that rod this day encountered problems with tire pressures. We surmise that the tire and wind gods did not want us to leave El Paso. During one of our rest stops, Ralph pointed out the remnants of the Rio Grande as we sat under the only shady spot within 300 miles of our location. We finally left our group of friends as we headed east into Pecos, Texas. We enjoyed our visit immensely due to the generous hospitality of Arturo and the AIA as well as the wonderful antics of Ralph and Don in shepherding us around El Paso and catering to our every need. Thanks guys and gals and we hope someday to be able to reciprocate.
