State College, Pa

The morning began cloudy and damp as the crew continued their journey through the flatlands of Pennsylvania. After checking the route suggested by some of the locals at the visitation, Joe heads the group toward State College. Exiting the main highway and winding their way through the hills, Joe stops and consults his GPS for the location of a road which, according to the GPS, is imaginary. After making a decision he heads down the road, makes a left turn, starts up the hill, . . . and watches in the mirror as Richard continues straight. Backing a trailer down a hill is one of Joe's talents, learned through many U-turns and backtracks, and is done with ease in an attempt to catch the errant travelers in the van. They, fortunately, had realized the error of their ways and had begun to backtrack (wonder where they learned that trick?) and were located by the searchers in the truck. After re-orienting themselves, they continued to the top of one of the local mounts where the ride was to begin.

"Hey, it looks like rain", Joe says. "Naw," says the big guy, "in Kansas this is just dew." "Push on," says Kip. "It won't rain," as the drops continue to increase in intensity and size. The fearless threesome head down the hill. "Gosh", says Joe. "I am impressed. You guys are always correct."

The view through Kip and Joe's glasses appeared something like this view through the windshield. James had worn his contacts and was able to squint the raindrops out of his eyes so he could see.
![]() Preparing to ascend a hill, Joe tells Kip to accelerate so he can get some speed to reach the top. However, Joe lagged slightly behind and after reaching the top was unable to catch Kip. Kip being unable to understand the commands to slow down or stop (as his story goes) continued to pull away. The only thing to do at this point is to continue chasing Kip on our way to State College
After becoming waterlogged, Joe thanks the torrid two-some for letting him join them on the road to perdition. After loading the bicycles and continuing to State College, the group finds the motel, obtains lunch, and then works on drying themselves out. Of course, after everyone is done taking their afternoon sleepy-time naps, they realize it did not rain for the rest of the day. Oh well, there is always tomorrow. However, a visitation at HealthSouth in Nittany Valley is scheduled so the riding will have to wait.
