We start another morning with a 5:30 newscast.
On our ride into the facility, we were joined by several people from the local HealthSouth, news media and residents.
Welcome and greeting. As you can see there was a great turnout for our arrival.
A very large number of people were on hand for our group session, including county officials, hospital staff, and most importantly the patients and their family members.
Commissioner Mitrick welcomed us to York and talked about the soft spot in her heart for those going through the rehabilitation process. Little did she realize that York was being invaded by a bunch of nuts.
The best part of our visits, as usual, are when we get to talk with patients, one-on-one. Notice Kip stealing a hug from a beautiful girl. The patients love Andrew; he spends a lot of time with them and they enjoy every minute.
More patient visits. The real heroes and inspiration to us all.
The topping on the cake was the afternoon ice cream social. I really thought I would lose weight on this trip, but no, Healthsouth, et al, keeps us well fed.
We finished the day at an evening meeting of the local support group, Amputees For Amputees. We shared our experiences and answered many questions during the meeting and were impressed with Chuck Cusimano's demonstration of adaptive devices. Thanks to Kathy Starr Hipple for the warm welcome.
Thanks to Lori Mitrick, County Commissioner for her wonderful talk of support, Cheryl Fleming, Facility CEO for her support, Katherine Middleton and Monica Kruger, for their efforts to make our visit a great success, for the many amputees we visited and the support they rendered. Of particular note was the warm receptions by Rose, David, Randy, Phillip Avillo, Bob, Anton, Preston, Kathy, Joy and certainly last but not least our gratitude to John Williamson who stood shoulder to shoulder with us throughout the last few days, who shares our vision, and pitched in and became a part of our traveling family of cyclists. We will miss him.
