Chris with one of his mentors are ready to ride down the mountain. A bright blue sky and cool, dry air were a great way to start what would turn out to be our wettest ride yet.
Judy
and Gene Hettinga from O&P Edge joined us for the day. We had a
wonderful time getting acquainted and enjoying the beautiful scenery as we rode
our bikes together.

Starting down the Rabbit Ears Pass. This was the only flat spot on this segment. The rest was downhill all the way. Average speeds down this stretch were around 28 - 32 miles per hour.
Enjoying
the downhill run from 10,000 ft. The sun was still shining and everyone
was enjoying a smooth pace.

There was quite a variety of wildlife to see as we rode. We saw a lot of prairie dogs, a pair of white tail deer romping across a meadow, a mother deer with two fawns, and two moose.

A short rest stop down the mountain to allow everyone a chance to take a little break before the next downhill run.

Freezing rain, thunder, and lightning. Wow! What happened to a fantastic weather. Seemingly out of nowhere came a cold and strong wind, followed by rumblings of thunder that seemed to be getting closer, flashes of lightning and, then, the rain started. The pellets of cold rain slapped our skin and came down harder with each passing mile. This was the first time that we have had any rain and it made for quite an adventure.
After
lunch Boutrand's Pass 11,900 ft. The weather did not improve after
stopping for a bite to eat. We drove up higher into the mountain and
it only got cloudier and wetter. The scenery was still incredible.
Mountain streams and waterfalls seemed to be everywhere we looked.
Too dangerous to ride. Loss of a downhill. In addition to the rainy and windy conditions, there was also road construction which included a blasting area. There was quite a bit of traffic, as well, on this winding mountain road.
Howard with pet. Tara's toy dog, Bandit is enjoying the ride and Howard is enjoying Bandit.
