We start out early from the motel. Little Joe is ready to put some miles behind him. Julie is contemplating ways to increase her downhill speeds to exceed the posted speed limits while Linda, Richard, and the torpid two-some wonder what kind of fools we are to get up early to ride a bicycle down some road that probably isn't the right one.

Wind at our backs, smooth road, wide shoulder, downhill. Could Joe be telling the truth for once... ... nawwwww!!

The beauty of Kansas

The wolf pack takes a break trying to absorb the breathtaking vistas of cows and corn fields. James, our inveterate Kansas tour guide points out the finer things of Kansas. The sand, the road kill, the flat, featureless terrain, the total lack of trees or other green vegetation. The natural beauty has everyone speechless

We continue on... grinding out the miles, trying to stay up with Linda while regaling her with melodic tunes of yesteryear.

Passing the one hundredth grain elevator in the last 20 miles.
On
arrival at our hotel, we are surprised by a newspaper reporter doing interviews
of why anyone in their right minds would ride bicycles across Kansas.
Joe commenting on the ways of the world on the road with the wolf pack. He was heard to say, "I hope someday when I am elderly, that I too will be able to ride across the United States."

Met by family. Rene and brother-in-law who is so thankful that she took James away.

Our little friend who thinks the world of James. Even Joe's bribe of a lollipop fails to dissuade her.
Here are the sweetest people we have met on this entire trip. They claim parentage of our wayward lad and were last seen wringing their hands and praying for forbearance and strength to cope with James's continuing anti-social behavior, particularly as it relates to Joe..

It has come to our attention, that our friends North of the border are taking our comments about Kip and James being convicts out on a work release program at face value. We apologize for being so obtuse and literal. Actually, Kip, James, and Richard are part of a Canadian/US government program to test out story plots for the Simpsons and to remove these shameless sociopaths from society by putting them on the road under the tutelage and direct supervision of Joe. We are sorry for the misunderstanding and confusion.
