Here we are again, another day in and around Sacramento.  The day began with a beautiful sunrise greeting us as we prepared to load up and head to the Yolo County Airport, backtracking our riding trail of Thursday through Davis, for the first skydive of the trip.  Joe and his sons had never had the opportunity to jump together and this was to be their first time for the three of them to be together, floating down through the sky like bricks.  Jim, Big Joe, and Little Joe (the size is deceiving it is their age we go by) all had grins and smiles as they gathered their gear, checked in, and . . . waited.  As the sun climbed higher in the wide open sky with little wispy clouds, the temperature began to rise.  Chris was excited about the jump and had eagerly donned a jumpsuit that was as bright as his grin.  Other jumpers at the facility were eager to visit with us as we waited around and enjoyed the scenery.  The three Saperes (sounds like a circus act doesn't it?) eventually were summoned to prepare for their ascent into the wild blue yonder and the folks on the ground warmed up their cameras and

prepared to be dazzled by their amazing feats of daring-do.  After filming their entry into the plane, the crew moved toward the landing zone to attempt to capture the action for posterity.  As we waited for the airplane to reach altitude, we attempted to keep track of it as it circled in the sun.  The ladies kept pointing at objects floating through the sky and said "there it is . . . no it isn't" until I finally located it and pointed it out to them.  As the jumpers left the plane they looked as small to us as we probably looked to them.

The three Saperes were having a competition as to who could land closest to their target.  This was won by Little Joe (the youngest Joe, not the smallest).

As they all safely landed and gathered their chutes, we applauded their performances.  This is probably a day that Chris will never forget as he walked out of the landing zone with the Sapere children and their father.

After the jumps had been completed and everyone from the oldest to the youngest was on the ground, part of the crew loaded up to head into Davis to Ken's Bike & Ski to check on the progress of the repairs on Richard's and Joe's bikes.  Joe's was finished and ready to ride.

  Who talked me into this?

After all  of the exciting action had unfolded, Kip, who had gotten so excited he jumped out of his leg, had to take a much needed rest.  As this was a short nap, the beauty rest will just have to wait.

After a quick lunch we drove to the residence of Peter Wagner, who had welded Richard's bike back together.  Peter also took the time to show some of his inventions to us.

Peter has taken parts of many bicycles and transformed them into many different and unusual configurations, including the bicycle built for three, occupied by Renee', James, and Richard.  The last part of the day consisted of regrouping at the motel and preparing for the early morning departure en-route to Carson City, Nevada.

                                        FAREWELLS

We will also be saying goodbye to our new friends Little Joe and Jim Sapere.  Lisa D from Ohio Willow Wood is using the excuse of having to return to work to excuse herself from joining us as we continue our two-wheeled journey across this great country.  We hope to have the opportunity to meet you as we continue our journey and keep . . .

"Rollin', Rollin', Rollin, though our limbs are swollen . . ."

Keeping positive and looking toward the horizon,

"Thumper"  James Thayer
