We started the ride in Sacramento, traveling to
the foothills of the Sierra mountains. Arriving at the top, we were
treated to a vista of mountains, lakes, and clear skies.

Here is just one view. Passing close to the site of the
Donner party...

Joe and Kip have a little re-enactment of the Donner party
experience. A bit tough was Kip's only comment. Joe said it was hard on
his dentures.

As we climbed up and up...

Finally reaching the summit at 8,700 feet.

With unbridled excitement, we anticipate the thrill of steaming down a steep
mountain road at 50 miles per hour for a distance of 18 miles. It just
doesn't get any better than that.

Here we are traveling as a cohesive group

But where is Kip? It seems that Kip's survival sense was
overpowered by the zest for speed because he became a dot in the distance as he
negotiated hairpin curves at high speed with complete aplomb.

Now we seem to have lost James? It appears that James
could not resist the challenge and chases Kip down the hill.
Unfortunately, their pace outdistances Joe who is unable to execute a right turn
to continue our travels. Outdistancing your support vehicle is not a good
thing and so we must all turn around and ride back up the hill to the turn-off.
Oh the pain! But you know, it was well worth it.

OOPS! Maybe James and Kip knew something about where we should be going.
Detour! What detour? Oh, I see, Just a little sightseeing in injun country. REAL
FLAT and PAVED all the way into Carson City. Yeah, right.
BUT... nonetheless, the whole group suffers for the sins of
the few.
