Well, after a night in the cricket infested town of Austin, Nevada, we loaded our gear and went across the street for breakfast.  The temperature had dipped to just above freezing and the sky was cloudy.  The drizzle started just before breakfast and turned to rain then was mixed with snow.

We headed up to Bob's Summit, elevation of 7600+ ft.  As we climbed, the fog became heavier and so did the snow.  It was decided the run down from the top would be optional.

The insane people in the group, Joe, Keith, Richard, and James got out their bikes, geared up, and started the downhill run.

Fifteen miles later, a 14 degree temperature rise, and a thousand or so feet of elevation drop, they reached the bottom.

A few summits later, the crew had gotten ahead of the clouds and rain and entered the sunshine.  As the temperature had climbed to 50 degrees, more of the brave souls elected to hop on their two-wheeled steeds and pedal themselves across the high desert of Nevada.

The wind was once again blowing directly at us as we crossed the scenic state of Nevada.  At one of our rest stops, Richard and Kip were involved in the intense activity of standing beside the vehicles.

Keeping track of everything and everybody can be a very difficult task on an adventure like this.  After once again packing everything up after one of the numerous stops we began to prepare to leave.  Hey!  Where is Renee'? What is that knocking sound coming from the trailer?  Oh, there she is.  Locked inside the trailer once again.  Who said you can never go home again?

At one of the roadside stops, we gathered for lunch.  Just when we were packing up and about to get out of there along came the law.  Lt. Mike Cowley of the Nevada State Patrol stopped to check on us and visit.  He was very friendly and we enjoyed chatting with him about road conditions for the ride ahead.  Thank you Lieutenant for the hospitality and courtesy you showed us.  What we couldn't figure out was why Gloria gave him a fake name and indicated she spoke no English.  What the heck was that about?

After lunch, we finished off the day with the ride to Ely.  The slope may have been downhill but the wind was blowing so hard it would have been easier to ride uphill.  Richard, being so low to the ground, had less wind resistance and was able to pull away from the group until Joe chased him down in the truck.  Later when we had a group meeting, Richard was able to identify himself as the little dot in the picture.  As we were preparing to leave Nevada, the crew helped out the local economy by investing their loose change in the casino.  Please send money!  However, Kip was very secretive about how he did and why the armored truck followed him around town.

Well, this ends another day of our adventure.  We rode 50 miles again and tomorrow we look forward to Kip's return. Tune in tomorrow for  the next episode of "How the Wheel Turns".
