Travel to Mechanicsburg, PA

Our trio of big, bad, bodacious bikers continue their travels through some of the most beautiful country side we've seen to date.  One of the big advantages of riding a bike across the country is that you go slow enough to really appreciate the scenery.  Today was a special treat as we traveled the back roads of Pennsylvania, complete with rolling hills, beautiful farmland and an occasional horse and buggy.  The biking gods were also good to us as the weather turned out to be just as wonderful as the scenery.

We stop at a local church to unload our bikes and begin our ride.  With Janette's help, Joe sports his new leather doo-rag with blue flames on the side and scares a local parishioner away from the early service.   Joe and Bill take too long to get ready so Jim begins to do 3 sets of 10 curls with his bike.

The three manly men prepare to ride as Joe snuggles up to Bill.  Bill casually slips his hand into Joe's back pocket and slides out his wallet.  Later on, as an act of kindness, Bill offers to pay for pizza but conveniently forgets his wallet (again).   Jim silently wonders how in the world Joe can be so gullible........time after time after time.

Bill introduces Joe to the newest rider....Wet Willy....

Trisha asks Joe if we're gonna ride all the way to Mechanicsburg and if we're almost there yet and how far we've gone so far and if we're almost to the hotel and how much longer we're gonna ride and if we're gonna ride until it's dark and if Joe is tired yet.

Jim, still wondering what in the world we're doing at this point begins to do dead lifts with his bike.  3 more sets of 10!

The fab four travel up and down and round and round the hills of PA.  Joe, worrying that he may not make the next hill, makes a friend and calls to him for assistance.  "Here, horsey horsey!"  We won't say whether he was able to actually hitch a ride or not, but the road we traveled on was full of road apples!

The gang peaks another hill and prepare for it's fast and furious descent. Traveling at speeds in excess of 45 mph, they have to have their fingers (and various other body parts) pried off their bikes at the foot (no pun intended) of the hill.  What a great ride it was.

The Amputators work their way up another hill.  "Did I ever tell you guys how proud I am to ride with you two?", Joe asks.  "Wait guys.... Come back here and listen to me"..... "I'm not through talking yet."  "Maybe I should change my deodorant?  Hey wait up!!!!"

The team enjoys a nice lunch in a small town, where Joe and Bill continue their childlike ways by playing a new game they invented called STRAWKEY which involves bending your straw into the shape of a hockey stick.  Using the straw paper as a puck, you have to blow the puck past the other player.  Jim acts as referee and  eventually declares Joe the winner in overtime when his paper puck flies past Bill and in his haste to catch the flying puck, trips an elderly couple as they are exiting the restaurant after their Sunday lunch.  Game over.

After a big lunch, Joe, Bill and Jim hijack a horse and buggy in order to make better time into the next town.  Jim takes over the reins as Joe and Bill sit in the back and dream of A&W Root beer floats.

Joe gets a breakaway on a nice hill and peaks the next one in good time.  As sparks fly from his two wheeled steed, all Bill and Jim can do at this point is kick it up a notch.  Maybe Jim and Bill should have had beans for lunch like Joe did???

Finally back together again for one final hill, this amazing quartet ignore the speed limit sign and zoom past it at speeds only previously known by farm tractors.  Joe's bright orange shirt scares off all wildlife and allows the riders to concentrate solely on the task at hand.

All riders give Joe plenty of room as his weaving and bobbing are of legendary proportions.  This hill was very nearly the death of four riders and after conquering our quest we were soon forced to pack it in for the day.  Tuckered out and tired to the bone, we head for our hotel.

We slip into our vehicles and Joe immediately puts on his Do Not Disturb Sign.  "Wake me up when the light turns green", he says.  You laugh when you read this..... but Joe means exactly what he says!
