We arrived early at the assembly area prior to the ride into HealthSouth. We are still filled with corn from last night's dinner with the Catons.
Here is the last minute preparations by Kody before the ride into the rehab facility with friends and family.
Kody is saying that he really didn't eat all four donuts as his mom made him give one of them to Kyle. All the same, coach Ernie was not happy and cannot wait for Kody's return so that he can give him extra pushups and crunches,
Here is the assembled group of riders who joined Kody on the four mile ride into the rehab facility. Friends, family, and staff from the Rehab Hospital of Terre Haute joined us for the family ride.
Escorted by sirens and flashing lights, the ride passes many onlookers. Bill keeps looking for the first rest stop but we continue on forming a wedge which keeps Bill from turning into the parking lot at Hooters.
We are greeted by Pat Patrick and welcomed to HealthSouth Rehab Hospital of Terre Haute. Kody, our Junior Ambassador was honored as a local celebrity. His efforts in overcoming his amputation have become an inspiration to others, both able-bodied as well as those who are physically challenged,
Kody's comeback was supported by family, friends, and community and he has become the latest Junior Ambassador for Amputees Across America.
Here Kody is relaxing from the rigors of riding a bicycle along hot dusty roads and avoiding streams of icy cold water from Joe and Bill's water weapons. After observing the antics of Bill, Kody is concerned that the loss of a leg causes insanity. Kody is somewhat relieved when Joe explains to him that Bill was insane before he lost his leg.
Here Bill is shown talking with Bob who came out of the facility to greet us. We wish him well and know that his attitude will stand him in good stead.
Here Bill checks Floyd's pockets for loose change while Joe talks to an attending doctor. Floyd told us about the bicycle that he has at home and is concerned that riding it might hurt his back. Somehow we don't think Floyd is going to have a difficult adjustment to his new life with a new leg.
We want to thank Pat Patrick and the staff of the HealthSouth Rehab Hospital of Terre Haute who devoted their July Fourth to welcome us to their facility. Pat's efforts to publicize Kody and to get him in shape for the ride with AAA were especially noteworthy as she brought all of the elements of the community together.
