We started the day riding Highway 79 from Tucson to Florence, Arizona. As is evident, the desert dominated the landscape. Upon arrival in Florence, the temperature rose to 100+ so we packed the bikes and headed for the mountains on the way to Eagar.
Arriving in the mountains, passing through Salt Creek Gulch, the scenery becomes spectatular. The temperature drops, so we mount the bikes once more.
We climb a hill, then over the crest, a hill that never ends
We should have known when we saw 6 per cent grade signs and runaway truck turnouts. We let the bikes fly and ran the hill at an exhilarating 45 MPH
Here we are coasting to a stop at the bottom of the hill. Needless to say, we can't wipe the silly grins off our faces. We are sorry to have sent John Keating, Asa Keating, and Gabirel Keating on their way to the Grand Canyon. We miss them already and wish them a safe journey home to Montgomery, Alabama. They have been a wonderful asset to this year's ride.
Tomorrow we ride into Socorro and on into Albuquerque.
