Travel to Wichita, Ks

Using the very latest in global positioning and satellite technology, Joe discovers a shortcut to Wichita. Unfortunately, the AAA crew balks at the prospect of retrofitting their bikes with mud tires and so a wonderful opportunity for exploration, discovery of hidden treasures, and plunder goes unrealized.  Joe is in his cups but promises to do better with his route selection next time.

Still battered but not down for the count, Joe is unable to ride due to a blister on his leg.  His doleful look does not garnish sympathy from anyone, particularly after the muddy road experience.  And so the bubble bike is consigned to the inside of the trailer and Joe to the inside of the truck where he is less apt to get into trouble and can contrive new schemes to make the ride one of excitement and adventure.

First riders on the road are Annie and Cliff who start the ride by giving Joe the finger.  Fortunately, it is the thumb.  The road is smooth and the wind is at our backs and the weather is perfect.  It just may be a perfect day after all.

Even a BSNF work train seems happy as it rumbles down the track.

After several miles of perfect bliss, Cliff and Annie can deny Abel's sniveling no longer.

Abel does not handle his driving duties very well.  Here he is shown raising all of the fingers on one hand to Joe to demonstrate his unhappiness.

After many miles of complaint, whimpering, sniveling, and whining, the Tequila Lime is finally able to ride.

Rushing back to the trailer to don his riding leg, the amputee god frowns upon Abel and reminds him that he has left his donning sock (the only way to get his leg back on) back at the hotel in Dodge City, many, many, many, miles behind us.  Like a fish flopping on the bank of the river, the Tequila kid is stranded with no way to even put his leg back on. And there being no spare, Abel is resigned to his fate of ridicule and abuse from Cliff, Annie, and Joe.

But Joe is ecstatic about returning to Dodge City and losing two hours of riding, because now everyone will forget about his little dirt road incident, and heap their abuse on Abel instead.

But Cliff, being the compassionate physician and healer that he is, reminds the crew that we rode down Poncha Pass twice because it was so much fun and that leaving Dodge City behind in our rear view mirror twice will be just as much fun.  Joe licking his wounds from his earlier debacle, has to agree. We successfully retrieve the donning sock of the short Frito Bandito and thus, peace, harmony, and tranquility is restored.

Returning to the good graces of the ride, Abel is finally rolling.

And joined with Cliff, experience the joy and freedom of riding across Kansas.

Here, the Tequila Lime and the Blue Mist are seen passing the truck on a hill.  It was just that sort of a day.  Going from the sweet to the bitter, we did the miles and arrived in Wichita.
