The Gathering of Beagles.  This picture  was taken at the bottom of Suicide Hill in Torrance, California.  Our intrepid group of riders managed to make it down safely without causing any major damage to life and property.  Shown here is the official Pacific point of departure.  Beas is shown here displaying the latest in his line of bicycle/wrestling shorts.  His innovative design causes his shorts to flap in the breeze whenever he exceeds eight miles per hour, thereby attracting the attention of a bevy of California pelicans, college coeds, and the California Society of Fashion Police (CSofFP), who cited Beas for indecent exposure with the intent to inflict irreversible harm upon public fashion sensibilities..

We arose to an overcast 56 degree morning, and suffered through the usual loading of bags and bikes.  Upon our arrival at the Tustin Rehab Hospital, we were warmly greeted by staff, patients and old friends.

A very special person, Paige Looney, has greeted us for the third year in a row sporting her new running legs!  Paige, shown here displaying her Memorial Day flag, captivated our hearts and inspired our spirits.  She is continuing to live life to its fullest and is looking forward to participating in an upcoming Challenged Athletes Foundation event.  Click on the link at the bottom of this page to see more of Paige.

We were greeted by patients and staff who turned out to wish us well, braving early morning SOCAL crispness.

Cliff directs his comments to a patient, whose son recently lost a lower leg.  His comments of encouragement and support were much appreciated.

Paige reported a missing balloon to the Orange County police force who responded immediately to a report of a suspicious looking character at the rostrum at HealthSouth.  A Mr. Beasey Hendrix is shown here denying any knowledge of the whereabouts of Paige's blue balloon.

Beas is shown here trying to coerce an eye witness to the larceny into not testifying against him by reason of insanity.

Paige is shown here giving Joe some caligraphic pointers and the Palmer Method of handwriting.

Joe ignores Paige's advice and continues printing using the block method of printing using his crayons.

Beas, acting as his own attorney, continues to intimidate witnesses during deposition.  Debbie turns down Beas's proposal of marriage seeing through his obvious ploy to prevent  spousal testimony.  As it turns out, Beas is released to the custody of Amputees Across America and must perform community service for the next two months.

Our thanks to Lisa and Susie, Directors of Nursing and Therapeutic Services and for the many loyal supporters who shared their holiday with us.

A surprise visit was made by Abel's son, Eric and his family, his wife Tammi, Adrianna, and Aubree, who traveled from Phoenix, Arizona to Tustin to see Papa Smirf off on his cycling adventure.

The ex felon is shown here adjusting his electronic monitoring device attached to his wrist as Abel discovers his wrist watch is missing.

David Mulhern, CEO is shown here waving his hand as Paige waves her flag to the departing riders.

The three riders, Ready, Willing, and Abel are shown here escorting Beas out of town on their way to Barstow.

Our thanks to David Hedley, Tustin Rehab Hospital CEO, and Johnny Clay, Director of Marketing Operations and their staff for organizing a wonderful departure ceremony for us.  Our thanks to the staff and many supporters for taking the time from the Memorial Day holiday to turn out and give us their support on our departure.
