Luke Myers

Lukas (Luke) Myers is a 19 year old veteran AAA rider, having ridden as a Junior Ambassador since 2004.  Born in Columbus, Ohio,  Lukas and his family moved to Colorado in 1999 where he currently resides with his family near Florissant, CO.

Lukas lost his leg on May 14,  2003.  Along with his sister Bethany and Brother Ethan, in 2002, he was hit, head-on, by a young man on drugs. After one and a half years of pain and over 15 surgeries on his leg,  they had to amputate his right leg below the knee. After his amputation Luke was thankful to be able to walk again.  Luke attributes his winning attitude to his focus on the positive, instead of the negative.  Luke has worked very hard to push himself to do the things he did before the accident.

During the 2003 visitation of AAA at HealthSouth Rehab in Colorado Springs, Luke became inspired to get on with his life and has ridden every year as a Jr. Ambassador with the goal of being one of the three riders to cross the United States.  This year will be the year that he achieves that goal.

Luke loves to help out the community and joined the Forissant Fire Rescue as a volunteer in December 2007.  After the ride this summer,  Luke will be going to college in Spokane, Washington, where he plans on entering the field of prosthetics and orthotics.

Luke has a determination and a life goal to make a difference in the lives of others.

"I'm going on this ride to help others in their time of need. When I first met the riders from Amputees Across America, they helped me to see that life does go on after a amputation. I hope that I will be able to have the same impact on others faced with a physical challenge.  We only pass this way once in our lives and I want to dedicate my life to making a difference."
