We begin the day with a little warm up in preparation for our ride into the York facility.  Luke has already scrounged a candy bar from Sean.

Continuing his quest for nourishment, Luke frantically calls HealthSouth to make sure that they will be serving, breakfast, snacks, lunch, afternoon snacks, and whether their vending machines are stocked with Dr. Pepper.

Luke talks with Judge Sheryl Dorney about charging Joe with numerous felonies and sundry misdemeanors, primarily centered around the 5,000 calorie starvation diet that Joe is keeping him on.

The group rides into the York facility to a wonderful reception of staff and patients.  Luke is seen in the final throes of malnutrition, canvassing the crowd for some crumbs of sustenance.

Finding an avid fan in the crowd to share her morning snack, Luke is seen devouring two twinkies, a chocolate cupcake, the remnants of a bottle of formula, and a lollipop.  Trying to speak baby talk, Luke thanks his benefactor and manages to find the door to the facility that Joe told Luke was named the HealthSouth Rehab Hospital for the Feeding of Errant Visiting Teenagers.

Joe comes across a HealthSouth patient of great renown.  Charlie or Spike, is a musician, entertainer, Irish minstrel singer, and Looney Tunes re-enactor.

Joe immediately senses a diamond in the rough and signs Charlie up for the ride in 2009 where he can work the crowd for pennies, nickels, and dimes, and sell snake oil cures to unsuspecting patients.  According to Joe, he is a gold mine and hopefully could raise enough money to pay for Lukes insatiable appetite.

Judge Sheryl Dorney steals the show as usual with her remarks and commentary.  She speaks from the heart, inspires, motivates, challenges, and cajoles all who hear her speak into reaching getting well and getting on with living. Following her speech, Joe has very little to say.  Thank you Judge.  You are a hero to everyone who meets you.

Following Joe's brief remarks and Luke's complaining about the lack of food, Sean rouses the crowd and manages to awaken everyone who was lulled into unconsciousness by Joe and Luke.

Following the telling of our stories, and a lunch for Luke, comprised of two hoagies, three Dr Peppers, two bags of potato chips, and a cookie, Luke finally makes it into the PT gym and joins Joe and Sean in meeting and talking with the patients of HealthSouth.  Foregoing an early dinner, the torrid trio return for a social mixer with patients, amputees, and local visitors. A long day but a great one.  We were treated royally.  Luke finally got his fill of food, and we managed to foist off onto the patients and staff a number of signed posters.

Our thanks to Mark Freeburn, CEO. Cheryl Kuhn, DMO, and Monica Kruger and her planning team, for organizing a great event that was characterized by excitement and fun.  Station 101 and Michelle, who followed us on our journey across the US and was there to broadcast our arrival was a special treat.  We thank everyone involved, who came out to support us and to make us feel so welcome.  York, you have always come together as a community, HealthSouth, your care and love of what you do is so evident.  Thank you all and we look forward to a return visit next year.
