Visitation at HealthSouth Mountainview Regional Rehab Hospital
Morgantown, WV

Today we found that it only takes Luke 9 minutes to go from in the bed to fully dressed and out the door. Well, that only happens when he misses his wake-up call and Joe puts AJ up to playing a little prank on him. As you can see, Luke still has pillow marks on his face and AJ is only slightly tickled that Joe’s little scheme had the desired effect.

Luke does his best impression of a Rockette doing high kicks in attempt to catch AJ off guard while doing an interview. This is one instance where AJ’s teaching skills can shine. She can completely ignore just about any problem child.

Turns out that AJ is almost as tired of hearing herself talk as much as everyone else is. Here we see AJ talking and covering her ears at the same time.  After 48 days on the road, in the hot sun, and giving Luke severe beatings about the head and shoulders, Aj is beginning to listen to those voices in her head.

Jason is the walking embodiment of courage and determination. While he sustained an injury that would make most people give up on life, Jason still has a positive attitude and the desire to continue his life as normal.

Practically the entire HealthSouth Mountainview Regional Rehab crew came out today sporting red, white, and blue shirts. Current patients, former patients, community members, staff, family, and friends met us at the facility for a group excursion around the block. We couldn’t have asked for a more positive, upbeat ride or a more gracious welcome.

With a police car in front, two police motorcycles blocking traffic, and a police SUV bringing up the rear, everyone arrived back at HealthSouth safe and sound (and somewhat sweaty).

Luke and Joe let AJ go ahead so that, in the event of a right turn mishap from the princess, they could avoid getting taken out by running over her like a speed bump.

The final stretch after missing 149 bottomless potholes, and a leg socket malfunction halfway up a hill, the torrid three manage to avoid running over each other and other wayward animals, arriving back at the start.

Even though it was a hot, sticky day, our welcoming crew stayed out until our return. Many people would probably have opted to go into the air conditioning, but these hard-core West Virginians braved the heat in support of the group.

AJ just can’t get enough puppy lovin’! Here we see little Chloe who, appropriately, was born with 3-legs. At 8 weeks old, she has the spunk and attitude of a Great Dane.

There are no words to describe how phenomenal Cody is! This tough guy rode the entire route today and climbed an ENORMOUS hill, all without stopping! Keep up the great work, Cody!

Joe shows the audience how his better half, Janette, wooed him with her coy gestures and foxy good looks.

: Luke practices the new bird call that Joe taught him by shrieking, “Here, bird! Heeeere, bird!”

The audience looks a bit puzzled and doesn’t seem to believe that Luke’s official bird call will work. At least they don’t think it’ll attract any birds. They believe it may, however, attract some people bringing special white jackets to put him in.

HealthSouth Mountainview’s CEO, John Forester, begins an attempt to wrestle the microphone away from AJ when she begins to recreate Ray Stevens's “The Streak” using song and dance.  True to form, John announces an extended full week vacation for all employees provided they get all of their work done.  The therapy team was last seen revising patient therapy schedules to 23 hours a day.

HealthSouth’s Byranna and Molly present Joe with a HUGE check. Actually, the silverware and some patient jewelry was found missing after our last visit in 2005.  Receiving a ransom note in recent weeks, the "team" agreed to act as intermediary and received the ransom check on the behalf of the culprits.

Amy is a pillar of strength! Not only did she stand upright for the first time today, she also had to put up with Grandpa Joe for 10 whole minutes! You’re 10 feet tall to us, Amy!

Joe, Amy, Luke, and AJ take a minute to say CHEEEEESE with members of the Mountainview therapy staff. This is one day that we all want to remember for a long time! See you guys next year!

A great visitation.  Enthusiasm abounds and we can't thank Mountainview's CEO, John Forester, Ginger Dearth, DMO, the efforts of Molly Ross and  Bryanna Ordiway to keep us on task, and the entire staff for making us feel so welcome, and for putting on a great event.  It is our hope, that we are out of the jurisdiction of the Morgantown Police Department by the time that the silverware has gone missing... again.
