![]() Prior to the ride into the facility, the
winds of war formed in the assembly area. Joe, with overpowering
firepower, drenches Luke from head to tail with a stream of water from his
power gun.
Luke is seen here hanging his head in shame after his stunning defeat in the Great Water Gun Battle of 2008 |
![]() Here AJ astounds these Pennsylvania Dutch descendents with
her Southern Gawgia twang and confuses everyone with a series of Bless yore
hearts. The gentleman, pictured here, rushes his mom past the crazy
woman before she can say "butter my beans and call me a biscuit."
|
![]() Luke is seen here squeezing the last couple of ounces of water out of his britches before giving a water logged presentation on the dangers of believing Joe when Joe tells him that the other water pistol doesn't work. The patients and staff are seen wondering what rock in Colorado did Lukas climb out from under.
|
![]() Here the winner of the 2008 Miss Tackiness Contest, her majestic tackimost self, speaks with such a slow drawl, that most of the patients drifted off to sleep before she could finish her first sentence. Undeterred, AJ continues to describe in minute detail, the entire history of the War of Northern Aggression.

Thomas,
an amputee of 45 years, gives three other generations of amputees some
helpful hints and tips on how to hollow out a leg socket from a willow tree.
He advises Luke to not use his socket as a spitoon and AJ to remove all
traces of pig dip from below the knee. |
![]() Joe is disturbed and doesn't understand why no one will ride the elevator at the hotel with him as he carries down his thermos of ice for the ride. |
![]() Ann Ciotoli, was the mover and doer, for all three visitations. She made things happen and was instrumental in organizing a highly successful community-wide event. She was amazed at Lukas' inability to fathom the most obvious insults that Joe heaps upon him on a daily basis. Our thanks to Ann and the staff at HealthSouth Rehab Hospital of Sewickley for their wonderful support and for their unerring ability to put us with the right patients to give our message. |

Tomorrow our estrogen-loaded Princess leaves us for her classroom in Georgia, leaving Luke with Joe and bereft of any adult supervision. It is with some misgivings and sadness that AJ takes leave of the ride rather than leave of her senses. Whatever possessed her in the first place to agree to ride a bicycle when she wasn't even walking? We are even more astounded that she believed everything that Joe told her about the ride. But truthfully, with all levity aside, a remarkable woman is leaving us tomorrow. She never once gave up. She never once failed to do what she set out to do. And she never once faltered or wavered in the message she delivered to the patients and staff at every visitation. She was in pain, but she never let it show. For those of us who lived in her shadow, it was a humbling experience to see her blossom as an ambassador of joy, hope, and courage to all who met her. At every visitation, she literally blew their socks off. But, for every bit of sadness with our loss, we are gratified that she will grace us with her unique talents on next years' ride as one of the team leaders. AJ, thank you for what you did this year. If you hadn't stepped up to the plate, there would have been no ride. Kudos and thanks and we wish you all the best in your classroom and look forward to your blowing everyone's socks off again next year.. |
