Ride down Poncha Pass
|
|
|
![]() Abel, in keeping with his promise to give only downhill runs, uses his miraculous abilities to split a rock formation so that we may pass through on flat ground. Two seconds later, an innocent chicken was squished when the rock formation returned to normal.
|
![]() Snake, AJ’s former buddy, rounds up some friends to try to find his lost “motorcycle mama.” He felt bad that he dumped her off his bike on his way to Farmington and wants to give it another shot.
|
![]() There aren’t enough words to effectively describe the beauty of what we saw on our way to Colorado Springs. This picture speaks for itself.

Abel
claims that Poncha Pass is just a slight downhill run. However, when Luke
and AJ saw the 9,010 feet sign, they began to think otherwise. AJ checks the
GPS to find out that the run is about 7 miles long and drops 2,000 feet in
the process. By the time they ride, she has already bitten off all her
fingernails. Luke just stuffs his pants full of Charmin toilet paper just in
case he has to make a bumpy landing. |
![]() Luke dons his gear to get ready for
a wild run down the pass. He was also seen attaching a parachute to his bike
so that he can stop or float in the event of an emergency.

![]() The guys, tired of the princess’ incessant complaining about having to pick her bike up off the ground (which is dirty), come up with a new way to use crutches as an improvised kick-stand.
|
![]() AJ and her trusty steed, Bullet, streak down Poncha Pass at a breakneck speed of 4mph. Abel, tired of smelling AJ’s burning brake pads, rolls up the windows to the truck and turns the radio up so he doesn’t have to hear her singing either.

Luke and AJ take a minute to
celebrate their hair-raising descent down Poncha Pass. Luke, waiting
patiently on AJ at the bottom of the run, had just enough time to
eat breakfast, take a shower, shave, and buy souvenirs for all his
friends before she arrived.
AJ is particularly proud of her ride down the pass today. Two years ago and with only one leg missing, she didn’t have the guts to do the whole run. Today, though, she completed the ride (however slowly) and managed to do it with less appendages but more backbone. Luke just thought it was fast and really fun.
