![]() The AAA team was welcomed to Colorado Springs today by a group comprised of a local boy scout troop, HealthSouth staff and family members, four motorcycle policemen, a few EMT’s (just in case Doc passed out due to lack of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee), members of a local bike club, and our good old friend Casey who fits in rather well. |

The
ride group charges uphill in anticipation of a warm Colorado Springs
reception. The motorcycle policemen had their hands full trying to keep Abel
from swerving into traffic because he’s been overdosing on his special
caffeine-free (NOT) Dr. Pepper and sugar wafers. In the end, he circled the
building 15 times on his bike, led the crowd in the chicken dance twice, did
an killer impression of a bull moose that attracted one large uninvited
moose that wanted to be part of the action, and sang You Are My Sunshine to
some guy named Gilbert that came to the event solely for the cookout food.

Al
Brody, one of our biggest Colorado Springs supporters and local bike club
Grand Poopah, suddenly lapses into involuntary amnesia and Steve Schaefer,
HealthSouth Colorado Springs CEO, can’t seem to hide the fact that AJ sent
wafts of negative ions into the air when spread out in order to air out her
princess pits |

![]() Kelly is now walking tall and seems to enjoy it just a tad. We’re glad we could see eye-to-eye this year and look forward to seeing you in the saddle next year!

![]() Margie looks surprised when she is caught red-handed snooping through every purse that was left unattended. During a strip search performed by our brave motorcycle police escorts, she was found to be hiding two twinkies, a slingshot, an open pack of wet wipes, a bikini, three open tubes of chap stick of various brands, and a hotdog that she says she was saving for later.

![]() Doc is overheard saying, “Go West, young man” while riding an Eastbound tricycle backwards. Poor Doc just doesn’t function at high capacity when he hasn’t had his 47 cups of morning coffee.

![]() Meghan, Steve’s daughter, not only rode her bike in with us to HealthSouth today, she also adorned anyone she could catch with tattoos. Since she was really quick on wheels, most of the visit attendees ended up with some sort of artwork on various body parts. Thanks for being such a great addition to our team today, Meghan!

After hours, the AAA team hangs out with members of a local amputee support group at a popular Colorado Springs eatery. Everything was going fine until Doc won a raffled
duffle bag that Abel wanted. That’s when it all broke loose. Doc stuck out
his tongue to taunt Abel and Abel retorted by sailing a piece of garlic
bread into the air. The garlic bread ended up landing in a bowl of soup that
splashed a chunk-o-chicken into the lap of one ex-wrestler named Bruno who
didn’t seem to appreciate it one bit. The last time we saw Abel, he had been
duct taped to a chair and the word “Joe” had been written on his forehead
with what looked to be ranch salad dressing. We hope he can gnaw his
way loose from the tape as he has the truck keys in his pocket. Many thanks to HealthSouth Rehab Hospital of Colorado Springs. Steve Schaefer, CEO and Lisa Hinton, DMO and CJ McCormackwere as gracious in their hospitality as they were in putting on a first class event. Special thanks to Meredith Gazlay at the Courtyard by Marriott for providing rooms for our stay. It seems that no matter where our routes go, they seem drawn to the Colorado Springs area. Our thanks to the hospital staff who welcomed us and for the warm response by all of the patients we visited.
