Departure from Tustin Rehab Hospital, Tustin, California
|
|
|
Doc, Abel, and AJ enjoy the Pacific Ocean at Huntington Beach prior to the official sendoff at HealthSouth Tustin. |
Lee
Fallon, DMO, welcomes the riders and staff and asks that everyone hide their
valuables as Doc and Abel have been officially diagnosed with sticky fingers
syndrome. AJ, a true southern belle, doesn’t like her fingers to be sticky
so the blame for the missing silverware from the cafeteria rests with Doc
and Abel. AJ just smiles. |
Abel
begins his speech with a roaring rendition of “On the Road Again” to which
the crowd replied by throwing walkers, crutches, and tubes of HealthSouth
chapstick. We can only hope that his performance, heard by all the ABC
channel 7 viewers, doesn’t cause an earthquake so powerful that California
slides off into the Pacific. |
Paige
is, hands down, our BIGGEST fan and we are her's! She is our regular
send-off queen and we have watched her touch so many lives and soften so
many hearts over the past six years. All the boys say she’s even cuter
than AJ, which mortified our pitiful princess. |
![]() Doc is seen here remembering the good old days when he spent time with Noah in the ark, survived one heckuva big flood, and played badminton with Moses. When he finally came back from his walk down memory lane, he found that everyone had left save for one squirrel and a gnat and they didn’t seem interested. |
Abel
demands that everyone plays Simon Says. Overheard by Able/Simon was, “Simon
says be as tall as Joe.” Doc, Paige, and AJ try their best to be shorter
than Joe's towering height of 16 inches. You see the results. |
![]() HealthSouth Tustin employees asked the Tustin PD to check the riders to make sure they didn’t steal any valuables, pens, patients, or HealthSouth chap stick. They are entering this picture as evidence in an upcoming high-profile court case of a burglary ring touring the country on bicycles. |
The
Tustin PD escort Doc and AJ out of town partly to ensure the riders’ safety
and partly to ensure the city’s safety. They were very politely asked to
“get the heck outta here” and were made to sign a pledge that they wouldn’t
return until next year. They will also have to wear tracking devices since
they can’t be on house arrest and still ride across the country. Abel,
however, is a big hit in the Tustin City Circus as a Willie Nelson
impersonator. AJ would like to give a special “shout-out” to Colin Harrison at O’Conner Othropedics in Anaheim, CA. He was gracious enough to see her on emergency basis and give the back of her socket a little snip job so it doesn’t hurt when she rides her bike. Our thanks to HealthSouth Tustin Rehabilitation Hospital, Lee Fallon, DMO and the staff who have made our departure from Tustin each and every year a great success. |
