 We were greeted this morning by clouds, slight winds, just-right temperatures, and a flat tire for AJ. The Green Valley Cycling Club was represented and showed its continued support of our mission. The tiring ride took approximately 2 minutes to complete and left Abel and Doc drained of all energy. |
 The guys plan their escape route as they enter the HealthSouth Rehab Hospital Henderson parking lot. Word on the street is that the Las Vegas police department is still looking for Lukas because he wasn’t successful at pawning or auctioning off Abel’s C-Leg last year to pay his gambling debts. Evidently, they think we might have connections and are out to put the kibosh on our trip. |
 To insure that Billy Schoonmaker, CEO of HealthSouth Rehab Hospital Henderson, keeps his remarks brief, Marilyn Fink, DMO puts gravel in his shoe and makes him stand on one leg, hoping to limit his speech to something less than two hours. |
 Councilwoman Schroeder, representing the City of Henderson, presents the riders with a proclamation declaring May 29, 2009 as Amputees Across America day. |
 A fed-up audience member tries to see if clapping early would manage to make Abel back away from the podium and end his speech early. It was an unsuccessful endeavor. |
 Doc picks a lucky audience member to play “Guess which hand the stolen HealthSouth chapstick is in?” When the audience member guesses correctly, Doc pitches a hissy fit of astronomical proportion and says the game was rigged. |
 Uncle Sam recruits members of the local DAV to collect on the debts owed to the city of Las Vegas from the past 8 years of AAA visits and to see if AJ really married that Elvis impersonator named Bubba. |

 Doc is pedaling like mad trying to catch the HealthSouth Rehab Hospital Las Vegas van driver to ask where the nearest Dunkin’ Donuts is located. He seems to be having withdrawals unless he’s just shaky because he’s older than dirt. |
 Vicki
and Dorothy laugh heartily and Laurie looks on as Abel does his best
impersonation of Dolly Parton. We hope the Las Vegas PD lets him out of jail
on his lewd and lascivious behavior charge soon. He didn’t leave Doc and AJ
the keys to the truck and they’ve been standing under the awning at
HealthSouth Rehab Hospital Las Vegas waiting on him to pick them up ever
since. |
 Abel and Doc show the audience how the Hokey Pokey is done properly. Well, at least Abel tried. Doc is still trying to figure out which one is his right foot and which is his left. Maybe he’ll figure it out soon. Doc is overheard mumbling, “If I look in my mirror, the left is right—right? So which right do I need to put in?” |
 The local Army National Guard Color Guard Unit parades the Colors before the event begins. We appreciate Las Vegas’ finest for coming out to support us for yet another year. Keep up the great work! |
 Doc, sneakily, tries to steal some official HealthSouth silverware only to find that it has been replaced with black plastic utensils. Eight years of AAA visits, it seems, has depleted HealthSouth Rehab Hospital Las Vegas of all its metal forks, knives, and spoons. |

Our thanks to Mike King for
putting up with our antics. Admittedly, the sun tends to bake our
brains, causing such anti-social behavior, particularly when Joe is not
around to keep us centered and on task. Thanks to the staff, patients,
and visitors who made our visit a great one. |
