Travel to Alexandria, La

The day started with Hurricane Alex threatening the southern Gulf Coast of Texas and creating slight weather disturbances throughout the area we rode. Despite some rain, temperatures still got into the 90s and humidity was hovering near 100%. It was a beautiful start to the day, and we stopped off at Bossier City, Louisiana, to let John pick up his fifth Harley Davidson T shirt. We went from there to the "Ralph & Kacoos" cajun specialty restaurant, and were joined for lunch by a very special lady - Kim Lucky. Abel had been bragging about the excellent Louisiana cuisine, especially the blackened alligator, so we tried that, bread pudding with Praline sauce and other specialties. Abel was right - it was terrific! Then it was time to ride --

We started the ride accompanied by "Cow Birds" - thin white birds who follow cows, picking up after them. They were interesting to watch, but it was time to pedal. |

Dick and John started first, as Abel had driving and photographer duties. Dick is having trouble getting his seat adjusted properly - had trouble with it all day. We'll see if he ends up smarter than the bike saddle.

This is an example of the changing scenery, as we move into the wetlands of Louisiana. We noticed a few swamps and lots of lakes and rivers - quite a change for the New Mexico boys! |

We got a kick out of some of the signs we saw. We had to restrain John from taking a pea here...

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Abel and John are riding into the City of Montgomery - we're wondering if the sign refers only to alcohol containers or also to containers of Gatorade. |

We noticed that folks in this part of the country are quite open about their religious beliefs, and found evidence of that quite frequently. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Only 40 more miles to go before we get to our hotel, and the boys are wondering who put the hill in their way? We thought we had picked the route better! |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Another example of folks being very open about their religious beliefs. There were several houses with religious paintings and statues occupying every square inch of available space. God bless America! |
